United Methodist Christmas Shoebox Project draws 2,300 shoeboxes and $12,000 in financial support from the four districts of Memphis Conference

For the last several years, the Memphis Conference has participated in the UNITED METHODIST Christmas Shoebox Project sponsored by the North Alabama United Methodist Disaster Relief Wearhouse in Decatur, Alabama. This shoebox project is similar to Operation Christmas Child sponsored by The Samaritan Purse but our boxes will go to United Methodist missionaries and pastors in areas not served by other shoebox projects. The Tennessee River District has participated in this project for several years.  This year the project was introduced to the remaining districts in the Memphis Conference….. and WOW! What a response we had!  The Memphis Conference donated over 2,300 shoeboxes and $12,000 in financial support to cover the shipping.

While the project may be completed for this year, it is not too early to plan for next year. Beverlyann Jetton, Memphis Conference Shoebox Coordinator, said “Now is a great time to catch the sales of summer cloths and flip flops as the merchants are changing seasons. Shopping at thrift stores can make your dollar stretch even further.”

Forest Heights UMC, Jackson, TN, served as the conference collection site, while Germantown UMC, Dyersburg UMC, and Christ UMC (Mayfield, KY) served as district collection points.
