Project 20/20 will be at April 21 'Frog Jump Fish Fry' to receive glasses and distribute donation boxes
Project 20/20 will have a display at the "Frog Jump Fish Fry" at Archers Chapel United Methodist Church in Frog Jump, Tennessee, on Tuesday, April 21, to receive donations of eyeglasses and sunglasses, as well as distribute donation boxes, according to Phillip Cox, Project 20/20 volunteer.
Project 20/20 is a Memphis Conference lay-driven ministry that operates a glasses recycling center at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
Project 20/20 supplies cleaned, refurbished and repaired eyeglasses and sunglasses to mission teams that travel to underdeveloped countries to provide free vision care to the poor.
Cox is asking men who will attend the Fish Fry to check their church box(es) and bring contents to the Fish Fry. He also hopes men will encourage their churches to donate additional glasses before delivery on April 21.
Cox reminds everyone “how easy it is to help someone get glasses who otherwise will never get glasses.”
His advice is to look in junk drawers and pull out any glasses not being worn and put them in a Project 20/20 donation box.
“If this wasn’t on your New Year resolution list, now’s your chance,” said Cox. “Put a reminder in your church’s order of worship or newsletter."
Cox will make sure all donations of glasses make their way to the recycling center for processing.
In addition to receiving donations of glasses, Cox will have a supply of donation boxes for any churches that need boxes.
