On Giving Tuesday, Support the Power of Communication

11/10/2021

Nashville, Tenn.: Amidst the isolation, fear and confusion brought on by the pandemic, the power of communication can create community and bring hope and encouragement to a hurting world. This Giving Tuesday, November 30, 2021, your gift can help enable United Methodist Communications (UMCom) to share the transformational story of God’s love and to equip local churches to do the same in communities around the world.

Giving Tuesday is a global giving movement that was created in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good. Giving Tuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.

United Methodist Communications continues to work to help churches do ministry in new and changing ways with a range of specialized communications, marketing and web services for local churches. The agency provides Zoom licensing for more than 800 churches, annual conferences and episcopal areas and live learning sessions to resource church leaders, including a new series of virtual learning conferences to equip churches and ministries with next-level communication methods for a new era. A new podcast, Pastoring in the Digital Parish, seeks to foster community and offer resources for leaders adjusting to ministry in the digital space.

UMCom’s national advertising campaign shares messages of invitation and hope through digital media and video, while denominational social media channels reached almost 59 million people in 2020 with uplifting content and opportunities to be in dialogue with others. The UM Connect mass-messaging system was used to send and receive more than 450,000 messages of health and hope last year. Audience-specific websites – UMC.org, ResourceUMC.org and UMNews.org – help to connect the church and provide dynamic, inspirational storytelling, resources and news in multiple languages.

“Now more than ever, we need to be connected to one another,” said Poonam Patodia, Chief Marketing Officer. “If you believe in the power of communication, please consider making a gift that will help us continue to provide these essential ministries.”
