Nine nationalities were represented at a Jan. 8 fellowship meal of the Monday evening "English as a Second Language" (ESL) class of Northside United Methodist Church in Jackson, Tennessee.
Students from the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, the United States and Yemen were in attendance, according to Yakko Matamoros, the church's pastoral care assistant.
"We come together from different countries, but we are all one body in Christ," said Matamoros.
The group "learns and fellowships" together and many of the students also attend a Wednesday night Bible Study in Spanish.
The purpose of the meal was to "thank volunteers for spending time building relationships with students."
