The Mississippi River and Purchase Districts of the Memphis Conference of The United Methodist Church now share a Hispanic Ministries Strategist.
Laura Ibarra-Hernandez received her appointment to this position during the 2018 Memphis Annual Conference.
Ibarra-Hernandez is now reaching out to other churches in the Memphis Conference that would like to “participate in and support” Hispanic, multiethnic and multicultural ministry in a “variety of creative ways.”
Target areas for new ministry are Union City, TN, and Mayfield, KY, where 5.05 percent and 12.9 percent, respectively, of the populations are Hispanic, according to information Hernandez has collected from census and other demographic data.
Ibarra-Hernandez also asks United Methodists in the Memphis Conference to join her in prayer “for this ministry in this time and in this region.”
"The Connectional Ministries Team is grateful for the presence and leadership of Laura as we engage the local mission field and create faithful and fruitful congregations. Laura is already proving to be a vital and creative voice on the Area Hispanic/Latino Strategic Planning Team. We call on everyone to support her as she builds relationships, strategic partnerships and prayer partner" said Dr. Joe Geary, director of Connectional Ministries for the Memphis Conference.
