United Methodist missionaries in Honduras will receive 424 Christmas shoe boxes this year, thanks to churches in the Memphis Conference.

The boxes, collected at the Memphis Conference office in Jackson, Tennessee, were delivered to the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Warehouse in Decatur, Alabama on Friday, Sept. 6.

The September delivery was necessary to allow time for transport from Jackson to Decatur and then through customs to their destination by Christmas.

According to Elyse Bell, director of missional engagement for the Memphis Conference, missionaries must receive the boxes before Thanksgiving to allow time for distribution to children in surrounding villages.

Below is a list of Memphis Conference churches that filled and donated boxes, as well as provided $5 per box for shipping and handling:

Christmas Shoe Box is a United Methodist ministry based in Decatur, Alabama. The North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church organizes the ministry that collects boxes full of small gifts and supplies for children and then ships them to developing countries where United Methodist missionaries and pastors help distribute them to children in local communities.

This United Methodist ministry is not to be confused with Operation Christmas Child, a Christmas shoebox ministry of Samaritan’s Purse.
