Lone Oak United Methodist Church in Paducah, Kentucky, hosted a Blessing of the Backpacks on Sunday, Aug. 6, after which the church’s pastor, Rev. Jason W. Jones, posted on his Facebook page:
“It would be almost impossible to enumerate the ways and places in which we saw Christ… From the smile on the face of a child told she could pick out any backpack she wanted to the joyful exclamation of a boy at something as simple as a glue stick, God was present everywhere.”
Jones also reported that a trio of young persons not affiliated with the church “came not to receive anything––but to donate supplies to our efforts.”
Jones commented, “It's safe to say that all of our hearts were strangely warmed by that unexpected generosity.”
Enough school supplies were donated for nearly 60 students in grades K-8, said Jones, even though the goal for the event was just 50 students.
Supplies were donated to Scholar House of Paducah and Western Kentucky United Methodist Family Services.

What wasn't picked up by students at Blessing of the Backpacks was delivered to Reelfoot Rural Ministries on Aug. 10: 32 backpacks and 25 bags/boxes filled with supplies, all with an approximate value of $1,500.
