Five United Methodists from the Mississippi River District of the Memphis Conference of The United Methodist Church traveled to Liberty, Texas, (about 50 miles east of Houston) Nov. 13-17 to show a "caring Christian presence" to persons affected by Hurricane Harvey that struck in August.

We were the first team to work in an area that has had five floods over the past 18 months. We found an area that seemed to have been forgotten. We saw hope in the eyes of the family we assisted. We saw family members' attitudes change from negative to positive as they came to know we were there to help.

Team members were recenty trained for ERT (Early Response Team) work. They answered a call to respond to assist others in their time of need.

If anyone is interested in becoming trained to be an ERT member to be prepared to respond in the event of natural disaster in the future, please contact me at
