Emmanuel UMC in Memphis: Church's kindergarten earns prestigious accreditation AND 'After Care' will be offered, beginning in fall
Emmanuel United Methodist Church (UMC) in Memphis, Tennessee, announced this week that its kindergarten program has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and it is adding “After Care” to its kindergarten and preschool program for the 2018-19 school year.
According to a media release from the church, less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally achieve NAEYC accreditation.
Emmanuel UMC’s kindergarten, founded in 1970, has been NAEYC-approved continuously since 1988.
To earn the accreditation, the kindergarten went through an approval process, followed by an on-site visit by NAEYC assessors, to verify and ensure the program meets ten program standards and hundreds of corresponding individual criteria.
“We are proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards,” said Rena Hiatt, interim director of the kindergarten.
With the start of the 2018-19 school year, After Care (extended hours) will be available to working parents of children enrolled in the kindergarten and preschool.
Children will receive a snack, free play, and planned age-appropriate activities, which may include outside and gym time.
Early Care has been part of the program for many years and will continue to be offered. Early Care drop-off will begin at 7:45 a.m. Children attending After Care must be picked up by 5:30 p.m. each day.
Parents will be able to register for Early Care and/or After Care during school registration. They will have the option to choose the days of the week they need extended school hours.
Emmanuel UMC’s preschool and kindergarten program accepts children from twelve months through senior kindergarten. Applications are now being accepted for the 2018-2019 school year.
The new student application process includes a required visit and tour of the school and a completed application form. An appointment for a tour may be made by calling the school.
