Decaturville First United Methodist Church in Decaturville, Tennessee, took part in a summer lunch program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Southwest Tennessee Human Resource Agency

We started on July 9 and ended on July 31, meeting Monday through Friday. The first day we had no one show up, but after that, we had 5 to 15 each day. Doors opened at 11:15 a.m. and lunch was served from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.

Southwest provided the lunch each day. We provided coloring books, colored pencils, puzzles and activities for children. We also provided ice cream bars and Popsicles after lunch.

Volunteers were scheduled each day to help with the children. Thanks to Parsons First United Methodist Church for their volunteers.

This lunch program gave us a chance to get to know the children and spend time with them. I feel the interaction with the children was the most beneficial part of the program. Several of the children who participated are serving as acolytes at church.
