Coldwater United Methodist Church (UMC) in Murray, Kentucky, in the Memphis Conference’s Purchase District is the recipient of a grant from the Renfro Trust Fund.
Bricks-and-mortar Renfro Trust Fund grants are administered through the Southeastern Jurisdiction (SEJ) of The United Methodist Church and are awarded annually from interest accumulated in the fund. Click HERE for more information.
The grants are for small membership, rural churches. Population guidelines are included in the grant guidelines.
The check presentation took place during the church’s morning worship on Sunday, Dec. 29. Sandra Burnett, chair of the Memphis Conference’s Outreach Advocacy Committee that administered the grant application process for the Memphis Conference, presented a $2,500 check to church member Dr. Brian Hoover, faculty member at Murray State University.
Dr. Hoover was instrumental in submitting the grant application, according to Burnett
Coldwater UMC will use the grant funds to renovate facilities used in the children and youth ministries.
“This thriving rural congregation has its average attendance comprised of about 40% children and youth,” reported Burnett. “On the day (the check was presented), Rev. Tim Palmer, the church’s pastor, asked all who were under (age) 18 to stand. Over half the worshipers stood, including babies whose parents held them up. It was an impressive and stirring sight.”
