Relief kits work and they are appreciated by their recipients
South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church (UMC) in Hazel, Kentucky, experienced that gratitude firsthand, after being contacted via Facebook by a Harvey storm survivor who received a cleaning kit (bucket) the church packed.
On Sunday evening, Sept. 4, the church got a Facebook message from “Julie” in Crosby, Texas, that said, “We are grateful recipients of one of your amazing, thoughtful buckets here in Crosby, TX. Thank you so much.”
Roshella Jackson, a member of South Pleasant Grove UMC, explained that Julie saw the church’s name on the cleaning bucket and found the church on Facebook.
Julie left a “thank you” message under a Facebook picture posted Sept. 3 that was labeled “Prayers and Cleaning Buckets for Texas.” (See photo at right.)
Jackson said the bucket Julie received was packed by the church’s United Methodist Men in early 2016 and that it had made its way to Crosby.
“We are wonderfully blessed to know a bucket we sponsored and packed found its way to someone who needed it and that they took the time to let us know,” said Jackson.
Here’s what the label on the cleaning bucket said:
TO: Recipient of this Cleaning Bucket
We hope and pray that the contents of this bucket will help you to return to a better time and place in your life. God be with you! Bucket packed by South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Hazel, KY 270-492-8357
George James, another member of South Pleasant Grove UMC, headed up preparing the church’s cleaning buckets in 2016, according to Jackson.
Jackson said James had remarked to her Sunday morning, Sept. 3, “I wish someone would let us know if they ever get a bucket we send.”
“Lo and behold,” commented Jackson. “Sunday night, there (the message) was.”
