The Church and Facebook

5/13/2009

Many individuals and local churches are now using Facebook as a communication and social networking tool. It can have very positive results in the life of the faith community, but there are some things to be aware of and consider when getting set up.

Susan Hay, the General Board of Discipleship Associate for Youth Ministry, has shared an article prepared by Paul O’Brien, a knowledgeable person in the field of Cyber Safety. Lakeshore has posted this article on their website (www.lakeshoreuma.com) and is encouraging local church leaders to read it and glean the valuable information shared in it for adoption in their own communities. The internet is a remarkable tool, but it can increase our vulnerability as a faith community if we are not wise about its use.
