God amazes at Dyersburg District Laity Banquet
By Bob Nichols
Dyersburg District Lay Leader
God never ceases to amaze me.
We had a great laity banquet for the Dyersburg District with about 150 in attendance. The youth gave a great program and Scott Smyth talked about plans we have for the youth in our district.
I gave the opening welcome and prayer before the meal and then directed which tables were to go first through the food line.
One of the items on the program was to honor the eight persons who had completed the Certified Lay Minister training. They were all at the head table.
The way it worked out, the head tables ended up being last in line. I really didn’t plan it that way and probably should have let the head tables go first, but I think God had different plans.
What is so amazing is that Sunday morning I had written in my Life Journal about the parable of the workers in Matthew 20, where Jesus said, “The last shall be first and the first shall be last.
As the people were going through the food line, I thought how well this fit with that parable. These eight people had chosen to be servants for God, as all the rest of us should be, and they were last in line. I think Jesus would have been last in line if he had been there in body. I know he was there is spirit.
This is why God never ceases to amaze me. I wish I had thought of this but I didn’t. It was God’s plan and all glory is His. •
