'Google Business Apps' now available, but first step is to get a Memphis Conference email address

Google has donated its Google Business Apps program to the Memphis Conference, enabling all the rich features of the system to be extended under
Memphis Conference branding at no cost, according to an announcement from Rev. Bill Lawson, conference associate for technical communications, who also serves Briensburg UMC in Benton, Ky.

To take advantage of Google Business Apps, Lawson said the starting point is to obtain a Memphis Conference email address: name@memphis-umc.org.

“We are encouraging each clergy person, church and organization in the conference to get a Memphis Conference email address,” said Lawson. “This will provide a permanent email address and eliminate the confusion caused by addresses that change such as when clergy change appointments.”

With the Memphis Conference email address comes all the business apps under Memphis Conference branding, Lawson explained.

Google Business Apps includes:

  • Memphis-umc.org email hosted by Google in familiar Gmail system format
  • Conference-oriented secure groups / mailing lists
  • Calendars shared selectively
  • Websites, template-driven and highly customizable
  • Hangouts
  • Google Drive
  • Collaboration Tools
To get started with Google Business Apps or if you have questions, send an email to Lawson at blawson@memphis-umc.org. Indicate the names for which you want email addresses.
