2020 Memphis Annual Conference will be one-day virtual event on Saturday, September 26

Chair, 2020 Memphis Annual Conference Planning Team

Bishop Bill McAlilly and the 2020 Memphis Annual Conference Planning Team hoped that postponing our scheduled annual conference from June to September would allow us to hold our usual in-person gathering, even if it was at multiple locations. However, in this COVID-19 season, we realize that will not be possible.
The safety of our annual conference members is our first priority. After weighing options, the team was in full agreement to have a fully virtual annual conference.
The 2020 Memphis Annual Conference will take place in one day on Saturday, Sept. 26, with clergy and lay delegates participating remotely. There will be no activities on Friday, Sept. 25, as previously communicated.
The 2020 Clergy Session will be virtual, as well, on Thursday, Sept. 3. There will be no Laity Session.
The Service of Licensing, Commissioning and Ordination will be Saturday, Sept.12, with by-invitation-only guests. The service is not open to the public. It will be live-streamed and recorded for later viewing on the conference website.
The core of annual conference worship and business will all take place Saturday, Sept. 26, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing through the day with a lunch break. A detailed schedule will be available in early September.
The one-day virtual 2020 Memphis Annual Conference will be live-streamed and available for viewing online by congregation members just as it has in the past.
We understand that the opportunity to be physically in community will be greatly missed. We also know that some may not feel comfortable using technology, but we will work hard to equip everyone with what is needed to succeed with this format. Each district administrative assistant is ready to assistant delegates as needed.
Delegate registration information has been updated and revised to reflect these changes and is available HERE. The deadline for lay and clergy delegates to register is Aug. 28.
We are working with GNTV for our annual conference production. Fortunately, GNTV has worked with many United Methodist annual conferences this year as they have made the transition to virtual conferences. The company understands the needs and challenges we face and is helping our team adapt and learn quickly.
Thank you for the grace you are extending to the team members planning annual conference during this season. We realize a virtual meeting will be a challenge, but we are committed to creating an annual conference with opportunities for holy conferencing, worship and celebrating our connection.
