Craig reports on weekend storm damage in Nashville Episcopal Area -- and how to help those affected
By Rev. Robert Craig, Coordinator, Nashville Episcopal Area Disaster Response Ministry
I have been in conversation with people in several locations of the Nashville Episcopal Area today and have gone over the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) situation report of damage.
It seems that our Memphis and Tennessee Conferences were fortunate over the weekend. However, there may be small communities in some locations that were overwhelmed and need assistance for cleanup and/or repair. Please contact me if you are aware of damage.
I know our neighboring United Methodist conferences have been more negatively impacted. If other disaster response coordinators request assistance, that will be communicated to churches and Early Response Team (ERT) leaders.
Meanwhile, if you are led to assist survivors of the recent storms, please consider donating to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Advance #901670. CLICK HERE
We also need to be in prayer for our sisters and brothers in Puerto Rico as they experience continued earthquakes and tremors. The relief and recovery efforts in response to Hurricane Maria have been temporarily paused to ensure volunteer and staff safety on the island. This report from the United Methodist News Service gives a good update on the situation. CLICK HERE
