22 from Memphis Conference are recipients of Fall 2017 scholarships awarded by United Methodist General Board of Higher Education & Ministry
A total of 22 students from the Memphis Conference (West Tennessee and Western Kentucky) are among those who received Fall 2017 scholarships from the Office of Loans and Scholarships at the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), according to information from Allyson Collinsworth, executive director of loans and scholarships at GBHEM.
Collinsworth reported that her office awarded more than 2,500 students a total of $5 million in financial assistance (scholarships and loans) for 2017.
CLICK HERE for the list of award recipients from the Memphis Conference. The list includes the students' names, home churches, schools they attend and names of their awards. Award amounts ranged from $800 to $7,500 with many $1,000 awards. The total of all 22 awards was $30,018.
United Methodist Student Day, World Communion Sunday, and Native American Sunday help fund a portion of the scholarships. Remaining funds come from gifts, annuities and endowments.
Not all applicants receive scholarships due to insufficient funds.

For Fall 2018 GBHEM scholarship awards, students may apply online between Jan. 3 and March 7, 2018.
Student loans also are available at interest rates as low as 3.75% (lower than federal educational loan rates) with a credit-worthy cosigner.
