WHAT:
  • This training focuses on helping individuals develop skills needed to serve on an Early Response Team (ERT).
  • A United Methodist ERT is a self-contained team that enters a disaster area by invitation. ERTs provide emergency repairs and/or assistance to help people be safe, sanitary and secure until insurance and other help are available.
  • ERTs offer a caring Christian presence and are trained to provide various types of physical, emotional and spiritual assistance to disaster survivors in the earliest days following a disaster.
  • Training includes team leadership, equipment, spiritual and emotional care, faith-based disaster response, basic response exercises, best practice example like how to tarp roofs, debric cleanup and mucking out flood structures.
  • The training is a result of the ministry relationship between United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) and United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
  • Embedded in all UMCOR training is the underlying message of loe and hope that The United Methodist Church offers. Because of who we are, UMCOR's trainings embrace a ministry of presence -- a loving recognition that spiritual bruises and emotional scars matter as much to us as broken doors and windows.
