Emmanuel United Methodist Church is seeking a full-time Director for its newly redesigned Wellness and Recreation Ministries.  In addition to the existing gymnasium, the church is expanding its facilities with new spaces for fellowship and community outreach.  The Wellness and Recreation position will help Emmanuel realize its full potential in utilizing these new spaces. We seek an applicant who will serve as a liaison between the church and the community in all areas of wellness and recreation creating new connections with our neighbors - in keeping with our vision to be a growing and vital community where Christ is transforming lives.

Job Description


General Summary:

  • To develop and maintain spiritually based wellness, community, & recreational ministries for Emmanuel United Methodist Church (EUMC) consistent with the theology and discipline of the United Methodist Church; and, to demonstrate ethical and spiritual behavior appropriate to the leadership in a United Methodist Church, reporting to minister of music and worship.

  • To advance the vision of the church to be a vital and growing community where Christ is transforming lives.

 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create opportunities for health and wellness programming for the church and community, factoring in a holistic approach (spiritual, physical, mental and emotional).

  • Initiate and plan activities such as Wednesday night dinners, church-wide fellowship activities and picnics, and other church-wide events as needed. 

  • Facilitate the use of the community room by identifying needs in the community.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a variety of recreational activities and events for all ages. This includes organization and supervision of activities such as pickleball, basketball, t-ball, volleyball, soccer, exercise, yoga, etc. These events should also be communicated through the church and EUMKindergarten. 

  • Recruit and supervise coaches of EUMC teams, ensuring that all have been trained in the Safe Sanctuaries policies and procedures, and adhere to those policies at all times.

  • Manage the recreation and fitness programs by maintaining on-line registration, fee collection, and supplies or equipment in accordance with EUMC’s established policies and procedures.

  • Represent EUMC at activities with other church groups, organizations, leagues and associations.

  • Coordinate all activities and facility use with other program areas of the Church including but not limited to Children, Youth, Missions, Older Adults and EUMK.

  • Recruit and supervise volunteers and leaders of all areas under the wellness and recreation ministries.

  • Coordinate the maintenance and safety of recreation/wellness facilities and equipment with the Facilities Supervisor.

General Expectations of all Emmanuel Employees:

  • Establish and maintain a professional and efficient working relationship with all EUMC employees, church members and other programs and missional areas.

  • Prepare and oversee annual program budget in consultation with Business Administrator.

  • Form yearly goals and strategies.

  • Attend weekly staff meetings.

  • Attend evening meetings of the Church Council and other missional areas of EUMC as needed.

  • Perform all other related duties assigned.

The qualified applicant:

  • Must be motivated and energetic.

  • Have good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work assignments.

  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and oral communication skills

  • Have the ability to work well with others in a team ministry setting.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time salaried position (exempt). 

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends or holidays as events dictate.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Ability to pass a general background security investigation.

  • Working knowledge of MS office & email.

  • Valid driver’s license required.
