Sept. 11 is deadline for local churches to apply for grants from 'second round' of 'Churches Reaching Neighbors' awards
Memphis Conference churches are invited to apply for “Churches Reaching Neighbors” funds in a second round of grants. Sept. 11 is the deadline to apply.
Grants will be announced and awarded this fall to “local churches that are attempting ministry outside of their buildings in the community” to “build relationships with people” that lead to “faith in Jesus,” according to the program guidelines.
The number and amounts of grants awarded will be determined by the number and quality of grant applications received.
The “Churches Reaching Neighbors” (CRN) grant program was first announced in early 2016 by Bishop Bill McAlilly to align with the 2016 Memphis Annual Conference theme: Offering Christ: One Neighborhood at a Time.
The grant fund pool (more than $18,000) was received from the 2016 Memphis Annual Conference offering. No apportionment dollars are part of the grant pool.
Because not all of the grant funds were awarded in the fall of 2016 and one church elected to return its award, money is available for a second round of grants, according to Dr. Joe Geary, director of Memphis Conference Connectional Ministries, whose office is administering the program.
"This grant program supports our Memphis Conference focus to grow fruitful and faithful congregations. We invite any Memphis Conference church to apply,” said Geary.
“Together, we’ll learn effective outreach and faith-sharing strategies, also known as ‘fresh expressions’ of the church, to make disciples for Jesus Christ.”
