'DayShore' is new Lakeshore program that will take summer camp to churches in 2016
Lakeshore Camp and Retreat Center in Eva, Tenn., is offering a new camp this summer that Executive Director Dr. Gary Lawson calls “Vacation Bible School on steroids.”
The DayShore Camp is different from any other Lakeshore event because it’s hosted at individual churches. Lawson says the event includes arts, crafts, recreation, worship and study, but doesn’t require students to leave home.
Interested churches must commit to recruiting 25 students for a camp, and then Lakeshore staff will work with a coordinator and volunteers from the congregation to organize the camp. Fees are $125 per child, but Lakeshore will offer 10 additional scholarships so churches may invite and welcome children from the neighborhood.
“We wish to partner with churches to help provide a meaningful experience for the whole community, not just those who are involved within the church’s children’s ministry,” Lawson says.
The executive director also says churches can use the DayShore day camp partnership to bring diverse groups of people in their communities together to experience God. Lakeshore has already booked seven of these events for summer 2016.
