Bishop Walter Russell Lambuth (1854-1921)
April 1 is the deadline to apply for the Walter Russell Lambuth (1854-1921) undergraduate scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year, according to an announcement from the Memphis Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry.
Up to $2,300 will be awarded for the 2017-18 academic year to one or more qualified applicants, said Dr. Joe Geary, director of Connectional Ministries for the Memphis Conference.
Recipients will be determined by the executive committee of the Memphis Conference Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
Award amounts vary from year to year, based on investment performance of the scholarship fund that is managed by the United Methodist Foundation for the Memphis and Tennessee Conferences. Two $1,400 scholarships were awarded for the 2016-17 academic year.
The Lambuth scholarship fund was created after the closing of Methodist-affiliated Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee, in 2011. The Lambuth campus is now part of the University of Memphis.
Geary stressed that the scholarship(s) is for students attending schools related to The United Methodist Church through the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. Recipients of the 2016-17 scholarships attend Martin Methodist College and Southern Methodist University. Read more here.
