Sunday, May 6, is the date set aside by the Memphis Conference to celebrate Golden Cross Sunday.
Golden Cross Sunday celebrates and supports Golden Cross Senior Residents Fund, a ministry that uses individual donations to provide for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of low income independent living and assisted living communities of Wesley Senior Ministries communities throughout West Tennessee, Western Kentucky and Eastern Arkansas.
Selena Henson, president of the Wesley Senior Ministries Foundation, will soon be sending letters to pastors in the Memphis Conference about Golden Cross Sunday.
Churches that wish to receive bookmarks, offering envelopes and a Golden Cross Sunday script will need to request those items.
“If this date (May 6) does not work for your individual church, please feel free to choose another Sunday,” said Henson.
Henson explained that churches may participate in Golden Cross Sunday in many different ways: by taking special offerings, designating communion offerings or including Golden Cross in church budgets.
“Whichever way works for your church will work for us,” said Henson. She said participating churches may send their offerings to the Conference Treasurer’s Office or directly to Wesley Senior Ministry Foundation.
“One hundred percent of your donations will be used for rent, food and medical emergencies, as well as for programs and activities that promote a better life,” said Henson. “This 43-year-old ministry is a large part of Memphis Conference outreach and we urge you to support it with your prayers and your financial gifts.
